BALANCE offers a wide variety of groups and events to help you connect with others, stay active, and develop new skills. Check our list below to learn more about the activities we offer!

Wellness Programs
  • Sharing Space Support Group (SSSG):
    • A year-round, professionally facilitated group counseling program for adults who are blind or partially sighted.
    • Provides a safe and supportive environment to address life’s challenges, both big and small.
    • Facilitated by a registered Social Worker with lived experience.
  • Strength and Stability Classes:
    • Focuses on mobility, physical independence, and daily living.
    • Includes exercises that build balance, flexibility, and endurance.
  • Musical Theatre Movement Workshop:
    • A dance-based fitness class that works every major muscle group.
    • Modifications are available for all levels and abilities, with classic musical theatre tunes to keep things fun!
Skill-Building Programs
  • Stay Safe! Self-Defense Workshop Series:
    • A comprehensive self-defense course for blind and partially sighted adults.
    • Covers verbal de-escalation, evaluative techniques for threatening situations, and responding to disablism/ableism.
    • Encourages discussions about personal safety and violence prevention.
  • Boxing 101: Fundamentals of Boxing:
    • Explore the fundamentals of boxing in this adapted program designed for blind and visually impaired participants.
    • Over six sessions, learn offense, defense, grounding, and footwork while creating your unique boxing persona.
Arts & Leisure Programs
  • Let’s Get Quizzical! Trivia Nights:
    • Fun-filled evenings of trivia with friendly competition and a chance to win small prizes!
Technology Training Workshops
  • Travelling with Confidence Using GoodMaps Outdoors GPS:
    • Teaches the use of a GPS system designed specifically for people with sight loss.
    • Includes built-in turn-by-turn navigation for iOS and Android users.
  • Essential Technology Skills
    • Learn how to use tools like Google Docs, Gmail, WhatsApp, and more with accessibility in mind. These workshops focus on screen reader navigation (JAWS, NVDA), organizing emails, collaborating online, and communicating effectively.
