Eating Well—Nutritious Recipes
Tired of the same meals? Then try your hand at a new recipe or a food you haven’t explored before. Ask your friends for their favourite recipes, pick up a new cookbook, search the web, or find copies of the recipes you liked growing up. Look for food ideas that tempt your tastes but are also nutritious and easy to prepare.
If you need help getting organized or finding recipes in the right format, have a look at Accessing Recipes on our site.
As you gain experience in the kitchen, you’ll start adapting recipes in new ways. Here are some healthy choices:
- If you like pasta, try whole wheat noodles. Change up the sauce with ground turkey or soy instead of ground beef.
- Choose whole wheat bread and buns.
- Use whole wheat tortillas or pita pouches instead of breads. They’re good for hotdogs and burgers (chicken or vegetarian) and making wraps filled with turkey slices, low fat cheese, green peppers and onions.
- Decrease the amount of salt in the recipe or use a salt substitute.
This section includes recipes to get you started. Look for the tips on easy preparation and nutrition. Here’s a sampling of what you’ll find:
Lemon Poached Salmon
Broccoli Cheddar Bake
Low Fat Mac and Cheese
Cashew Chicken with Couscous
